“Grey Shade, Red Door” by Michel-Paul Cyr

This painting is a bit dark and mysterious. I painted this the summer of 2024 from a picture that I had taken on Martha's Vineyard. I wanted to paint another house, in shadow with a red door. I had previously painted a blue house with a red door named, "Blue Shade Red Door", that sold to a lovely woman from Las Angeles. You may recognize the blue house because it is located on the corner of Congress Street and Stroudwater in Portland.

I was a few days into painting the "Gray Shade Red Door" when I noticed what appeared to be the outline of a Gray Elephant in the shadows highlights. I haven't touched the painting since because I thought it made for an interesting story. The silhouette of the elephant was completely by circumstance. Do you see it?

This painting, with crooked windows, uneven lines, orange under painting showing on the tree is unfinished but "finished".

See the painting in its early stages in the video below.
